Its been a while folks. Almost a year now. But its time to start to get the wheels moving on this great site, because you need it! Now even though its been almost a year since the last tutorial was published, Tutorial Dog has seen traffic continue to come at a steady rate which makes a comeback all the more necessary. The site also has stayed relevant with many commenters (thanks) giving input on many hot button articles of the site.

Figure 1. Traffic Since May 2008

And I felt the previous design lacked on at making this important enough. This new site focuses on the readability and how to display images in a book-like fashion. Garretdimon.com primarily inspired me to rethink the way to present content, and expanding the design outside of the structure of a box. By creating a gutter of free space on the right side, I can display images and information in an interesting visual way. Like so…

All there is left to do is to publish new material. If you haven’t done so already, subscribe to the RSS feed and stay tuned. I’ve got a lot of ideas, so we’ll have to see what materializes. If there is anything specific you’d like to learn more about, leave a comment below.

Hey Everyone! Welcome to Tutorial Dog. If you haven’t been around this neck of the woods in a while, you’ll notice a design facelift and new tutorial. This summer, Tutorial Dog will be publishing tons of new material so get ready for an exciting summer.

New Design

I redesigned the site from the ground up and have upgraded to the new Wordpress 2.5. The site was in desperate need of a better design not just because of ascetics, but for its poor information architecture. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I finally realized how poor the information architecture was after running Crazy Egg tests. The last design’s navigation lead people away from the site content. The goal of this new design is for visitors to quickly identify and navigate to the articles they would find interesting ON THE TUTORIAL DOG WEBSITE. This means the categories is the main navigational links. The concept of the design is a school chalkboard. I thought imagery of chalk & blackboard jived with the concept of learning which is the goal of the visitor when they land on Tutorial Dog. The presentation of the articles on the page allowed for more friendly posts like this one as well.

The Road Ahead

This summer is gonna be a fun filled one with plenty a tutorials on the horizon. Thus far in 2008 I’ve been releasing one tutorial every two months, but this about to change soon. I’ve already published a follow up to the javascript image gallery and there even more tutorials ready to come down the pipe so make sure you subscribe. For all that want new Photoshop tutorials, stay patient because I’ve got a couple of great ones soon to be ready for publishing. And speaking of the subscribing, Tutorial Dog has crossed the 300 subscriber mark with the publishing of the latest tutorial.

Advertise

We’ve refined the advertising options and created an automated in house solution which has allowed us to offer such low prices. If there is a large demand to for the link ads, then we’ll raise prices according, so get in on the opportunity while you can. We also offer an image ad option for $10 as well.
